What is Microdermabrasion?
The award-winning SkinBase microdermabrasion Facial is a uniquely effective non surgical, non-invasive, chemical free treatment designed to treat a number of skin conditions leaving your skin feeling fresher and clearer.
Microdermabrasion, meaning literally ‘small skin wearing away’ uses fine crystals to buff away the very outer layer of skin cells and remove dead skin cells to reveal the fresh, new skin beneath.
You will see results immediately and with each subsequent treatment your skin will continue to look progressively better.
The deeply exfoliating effect of Microdermabrasion makes it perfect for people who are dealing with congested skin and blemishes because MD works to clear out the pores and remove excess oil, therefore eliminating two of the primary causes of spots, blackheads and breakouts.
Of course, many of us experience the opposite problem – fine lines, wrinkles and ageing skin! The good news is that Microdermabrasion can help here too. The exfoliation speeds up cell renewal, which reduces the appearance of fine lines by enabling younger skin cells to come to the surface. The vacuum aspect also helps to stimulate collagen production, which plumps up and firms the skin, to give it a youthful, lifted appearance.
What does a treatment involve?
During a Microdermabrasion treatment, your therapist will cleanse and exfoliate, to extract dead skin cells and impurities from the skin. This is done with a stream of non-allergenic crystals, suitable for all skin types. Fine lines and wrinkles are abraded away by the powerful crystals for a youthful glow and also stimulates the collagen and elastin production and the cell renewal process is sped up. These factors contribute to bright, plump, smooth skin. The treatments finishes with moisturiser, toner and SPF to keep the skin hydrated.
What can Microdermabrasioncan treat?
Microdermabrasion can be used anywhere on the body with congested skin, uneven skin tone and stretch marks. As well as the face it is great on the feet and hands for hard skin as well as the back and legs helping with cellulite.
A course of Microdermabrasion helps to target skin concerns such as spots, blemishes, enlarged and blocked pores, acne scarring, uneven skin tone, pigmentation, dullness and fine lines and stretch marks or just dull, tired skin. You can even see results from the very first session! You aren’t just investing in your skin’s appearance, you’re investing in feeling better about yourself, and investing in your skin’s long-term well-being.

HOW DOES IT WORK
Microdermabrasion is a deep/intense exfoliating and re-surfacing treatment which works by passing a fine jet of abrasive crystals over the skin using a light vacuum. The crystals are gentle on the skin, but abrasive enough to lift away dead skin and grime. Even the vacuum action is gentle and stimulates the microcirculation within the skin, which promotes collagen production.
The facial achieves amazing results revealing younger, healthier looking skin from the very first treatment. The skin’s appearance is further improved through increased collagen & elastin production as your body produces a new layer of skin.
No recovery time is required after having microdermabrasion and most people return to daily activity immediately following a session.
It is particularly beneficial for acne sufferers. Microdermabrasion is a progressive treatment so for skin concerns like pigmentation and scarring you will continue to see improvements week by week.
Why Do We Recommend A Course Of Microdermabrasion treatments?
No matter how much you look after your skin, it will still be adversely affected by the environment and the aging process.
A course of Microdermabrasion facials can help to repair damage that has occurred over the years, (accelerated by a decline in collagen production during our late 20s/early 30s. The extent of skin damage will vary, so it stands to reason that to repair some of this damage, a course of treatments will be required.
How regularly can I have microdermabrasion?
We recommend every 7-10 days during a course to achieve the best results. This allows your skin time to recover but is also close enough together if you are working to improve skin issues. Your therapist can work deeper on the skin with each treatment; but safely and effectively without injury to the skin.
A course of microdermabrasion can be used to give your skin a healthy glow or to target more specific requirements such as fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, sun damage & acne. Post treatment your skin continues to improve due to increased collagen & elastin production which can help with the pigmentation of your skin and improve the appearance of wrinkles.

How to get rid of acne scarring using microdermabrasion
Suffering from acne is bad enough, but it’s the scarring left behind that can cause the most distress. Whilst a spot can last for a week or so, the scarring left behind can last for much longer, forever even.
Acne scars form as a result of a wound or injury rupturing the follicle wall. When lesions are superficial, the skin will repair in due course. However, a scar forms when there is serious damage to the follicle wall. As a reaction, the skin produces new collagen fibres but this doesn’t look the same as before the injury and a scar is formed.
Why choose microdermabrasion facial for acne scarring?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, low risk, rapid recovery time skin rejuvenation procedure that fires tiny crystals at the skin to remove the top layers of skin. Weekly treatments will allow your SkinBase therapist to work through the layers of skin and stimulate cell renewal and collagen production so skin rejuvenates and repairs.
What other benefits are there to microdermabrasion?
Not only does microdermabrasion reduce the appearance of acne scarring but also has other benefits, such as banishing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing stretch marks, creating a more even skin tone and improving the appearance of dull and tired skin.
Safely Remove Unwanted Facial Pigmentation Blemishes
The was designed as a skin pigmentation treatment and can therefore vastly improve the appearance of facial hyperpigmentation and skin blemishes.
Reasons for facial pigmentation (and elsewhere on the body) vary from over exposure to the sun, the use of oral or birth control pills, pregnancy and even chemicals found in certain perfumes, soaps and shampoos.
Regular microdermabrasion treatments are proven to show significant benefits as a skin pigmentation treatment, working on sun-damaged skin and to help remove unwanted facial pigmentation blemishes.
Stretch mark removal with microdermabrasion
Stretch Marks affect thousands of people, regardless of age or situation. Weight loss, weight gain, pregnancy or simply growing can all result in the fine silvery, long, fragmented scars that are sunken into the skin.
Elasticity plays an important part in how stretch marks form, and is also an important factor in how we can use microdermabrasion to remove stretch marks.
Stretch marks form because a certain hormone becomes overactive and stops the skin from producing collagen and elastin fibres responsible for keeping growing skin taut. The SkinBase Facial™ targets the problem area and through the fine crystals and vacuum action, stimulates elastin and collagen, getting rid of stretch marks.
Dull Skin Treatment: Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion speeds up the body’s normal rate of skin renewal. Gets rid of tired and dull patches and reveals new, fresh skin and a radiant glow.
What causes dull, tired looking skin?
As we age, our skin can lose its brightness and can start to look grey in appearance. When we’re younger, our skin cells shed over 30 days but, as we get older, it can take up to 60 days, which causes a build up of dead skin cells and a dull looking complexion. This can speed up signs of ageing in your face and make you look older than you are or make you look tired.
We are also constantly exposed to the UV rays of the sun which can make our skin start to appear dry, tired and dull as a result of sun damage. This is the result of the outside layer of skin building up and not being exfoliated on a regular basis.
Build-up can be especially apparent to women and you may start to realise that your make-up does not look as fresh. This is because the make-up is absorbed into the accumulated dead skin cells on your face, resulting in a tired and dull look to your skin.
Dull skin lacks lustre and radiance and can make you look old, tired or run down. It is a common skin complaint that is easily resolved through microdermabrasion.
